How to Replace a Cushion Cover for Sofa

Tools and Materials:

- Replacement Cushion Cover

- Measuring Tape

- Scissors or Craft Knife

- Sewing Kit

- Thread (the color of the new cushion cover)

Step 1: Remove the Old Cushion Cover

1. Locate the zipper or opening of the old cushion cover.

2. Carefully unfasten the zipper or unsnap the buttons to open the cover.

3. Remove the cushion from inside the cover.

4. Inspect the cushion for any signs of dirt or damage. Clean or repair as needed.

Step 2: Measure the Cushion

1. Measure the width, height, and depth of the cushion using a measuring tape.

2. Add 1-2 inches to each measurement for seam allowances.

3. Double-check your measurements.

Step 3: Cut the Fabric

1. Place the old cushion cover flat on a table or cutting surface.

2. Use the measurements you obtained to cut out the pieces for your new cushion cover from replacement fabric.

- Front Piece

- Back Piece

- Gussets (side pieces)

Step 4: Sew the Cover Together

1. Right-sides-together, sew the gussets to the front piece. Press seams.

2. Pin the back piece to the gusset with the right sides together, starting at the center of one side and working your way out.

3. Stitch the gusset and back together, using a ½-inch seam allowance.

4. Press the seams open and flat.

5. Turn the cover right side out and press it flat.

Step 5: Insert the Cushion

1. Place the cushion inside the newly-made cover.

2. Adjust the corners and edges to ensure a snug fit.

3. Close the zipper or fasten the buttons to secure the cover in place.

4. Ensure that the cover fits firmly and covers the entire cushion.

Step 6: Admire Your New Cushion Cover

Enjoy your newly recovered cushion and give your sofa a fresh look without having to buy a brand new one!
