How to Drape Scarves Over a Canopy Bed

Canopy beds have decorative frames with high posts and connecting fixtures. Clean and simple designs of modern canopy beds are enhanced with the elegant, softening effect of draped scarves. Scarves for canopy beds are sheer and light, usually consisting of organza, chiffon, combed cotton or a rayon/silk blend. Bed scarves give a less-formal look to a canopy bed than do curtains or other attached material. It takes some practice in arranging this light, breezy material on a canopy bed.

2 to 4 pieces of 12-foot bed scarves
Ribbon (optional)
Silk flower or ivy vines (optional)
Bead string (optional)

Instructions

  Start at the right corner at the head of the bed. Hold one end of the fabric so that the edge touches the floor. Loop the fabric over the bed post and drape it around so that it stays securely.

  Move to the left corner at the head of the bed. Loop the fabric over the bed post on that side, allowing for some slack between the two bed posts. Pull it tighter for a sleek look, or leave large loops for a softer look. Let the remaining fabric hang to the floor on the left side.

  Loop the second piece of fabric around the right post at the foot of the bed, letting the end puddle on the floor by about 8 inches. Drape the bed scarf across the bed to the left post at the foot of the bed. Loop the material around the bed post and let it hang down.

  Accessorize the canopy bed frame with a silk flower garland, ivy garland or string of beads. Wrap strands across the scarves at the head and foot of the bed.
