1. Measure the length of the stairway from the bottom of the first step to the top of the last step.
2. Cut the railing to the desired length.
Step 2: Install the Railing Posts
1. Mark the locations of the railing posts on the stairway. The posts should be spaced evenly apart, and the first and last posts should be no more than 6 feet apart.
2. Drill holes for the railing posts.
3. Insert the railing posts into the holes and secure them with lag bolts.
Step 3: Attach the Railing
1. Attach the railing to the railing posts using carriage bolts.
2. Make sure that the railing is level and secure.
Step 4: Apply a Finish
1. Apply a finish to the railing, such as paint or stain.
2. Allow the finish to dry completely.
Tips
* If the stairway is curved, you will need to use a flexible railing.
* If the stairway is steep, you may need to install a handrail in addition to the railing.
* Make sure that the railing is high enough to prevent people from falling over it.
* The railing should be smooth and free of any sharp edges.
* Inspect the railing regularly and make sure that it is in good condition.
