How to Lay a Curved Brick Walkway

## How to Lay a Curved Brick Walkway

A curved brick walkway adds both beauty and functionality to your yard. It can lead you from your front door to your garden, or from your driveway to your pool. Installing a curved brick walkway is a relatively simple project that can be completed in a few days.

Materials Needed

* Bricks

* Sand

* Gravel

* Cement

* Edging material (such as concrete blocks or plastic edging)

* Level

* Measuring tape

* Shovel

* Wheelbarrow

* Hammer

* Trowel

* Rubber mallet

Instructions

1. Excavate the area where you want the walkway to be. The excavation should be about 6 inches deep and 2 feet wide.

2. Install the edging material. This will help to keep the bricks in place and prevent them from spreading out.

3. Tamp the sand down until it is firm. This will help to provide a stable base for the bricks.

4. Install the gravel. The gravel will help to drain water away from the walkway and prevent it from becoming slippery.

5. Lay the bricks in a curved pattern. Start by laying the bricks in the center of the walkway and then work your way out to the edges. Use a level to make sure that the bricks are level.

6. Set the bricks in place. Use a rubber mallet to tap the bricks down until they are firmly in place.

7. Fill the joints between the bricks with cement. This will help to keep the bricks together and prevent them from shifting.

8. Let the cement dry for at least 24 hours before walking on the walkway.

Tips

* When laying the bricks, be sure to stagger the joints so that they are not in a straight line. This will help to create a more random and natural look.

* If you want to create a curved walkway that is more than 2 feet wide, you can install a second row of bricks. Simply offset the second row of bricks by half a brick width so that the joints do not line up.

* You can also use different colors of bricks to create a more decorative walkway.

*If you live in an area with heavy rainfall, you may want to install a drainage system under the walkway. This will help to prevent the water from pooling on the walkway and making it slippery.
