For a contemporary or modern look, the wood does not have to cover every wall, but can cover one or two to give the basement an asymmetrical vibe that often goes well with the modern or contemporary style of design. The type of wood that is used depends on the style that the designer is seeking. For a more textured look, place the wood on the walls in a sideways manner so that only the sides of the logs are showing instead of lengthwise.
