How to Troubleshoot a Hyster H90FT When the Check Light Is On

Whether pallets have to be moved in a warehouse or building materials need to be hoisted up to construction workers on scaffolding, the forklift is a versatile tool. The H90FT is a diesel-powered forklift made by Hyster, a manufacturing company originally formed in 1929, in Portland, Oregon, as the Willamette-Ersted Company. NACCO Industry, which markets the Hyster name, purchased the company in 1989. The Hyster forklift is equipped with a "check light" that warns the operator when maintenance is required. When the check light comes on, basic functions and parts should be checked.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the engine compartment and check the battery. To do this, connect a battery charger-tester to the negative and positive posts of the forklift battery by hand. If the battery shows a low charge, allow the battery to charge.

    • 2

Remove the forklift's oil dipstick located inside the engine compartment, wipe it with an old rag and then slide it back in. Pull it out again to check the oil level. The oil level should be within the designated ranges on the dipstick. Add oil if the stick reads low.

    • 3

Add fuel to the forklift if the fuel level is low.

    • 4

Open the air filter box by removing the wing nut on the end. Remove the filter and replace it if it is dirty.

    • 5

Remove the spark plug wire from the plug, remove the plug with a socket set. Replace the plug with a new one if it appears to be dirty or fouled.
