How to Change a Tire on a GT245 Deere

The John Deere GT245 model is the largest of the company's GT series of tractors. Like all heavy-duty vehicles, it requires regular maintenance in order to keep it running in top shape. One problem that you will occasionally encounter if you operate your GT245 regularly on rough terrain or around industrial materials is a flat tire. Though the basic process behind changing the tire of a large tractor is similar to that of a smaller vehicle, take special care due to the weight of the vehicle and the configuration of the tire's rim.

Instructions

    • 1

Place wheel blocks down in front of each of the front wheels and behind the rear ones to stabilize the tractor.

    • 2

Deflate the tire completely using the air compressor valve pin.

    • 3

Remove the hubcap of the tire you are changing from the rim with the bottom end of your tire iron if you are changing one of the rear tires. The front ones do not have hubcaps.

    • 4

Rotate the tire lugs counterclockwise with the lug wrench end of your tire iron. Set them aside.

    • 5

Put the heavy duty jack securely under the metal part of the tractor's undercarriage near the tire which needs to be changed.

    • 6

Lift the tire into the air using the jack until there is enough space below it to slip it off the wheel bolts.

    • 7

Spray or wipe down the wheel bolts and the inside of your hubcap with rust preventative.

    • 8

Place your replacement tire onto the rim, aligning it with the wheel bolts so that it slips into place.

    • 9

Lower the new tire onto the ground and set the jack aside.

    • 10

Reattach the lug nuts to the wheel bots and tighten them firmly into place with your tire iron. Replace the hubcap if you have taken it off.

    • 11

Inflate the new tire to the recommended pressure listed on its outside surface to complete your tire change, using the air compressor's hose and built-in pressure gauge.
