How to Hide Sewer Pipes in a Basement Wall

One of the major challenges of remodeling or decorating a basement is decorating around the necessary items in this space, including sewer pipes. Just because you can’t move the pipes doesn’t mean you have to allow them to have a negative impact on your decor. With a little ingenuity, you can hide these potential eyesores from sight, making your basement an attractive and inviting space.

Instructions

Wall around the pipes. When planning the walls that fill your basement, take these pipes into consideration, planning a wall to cover over where the plumbing pipes protrude. Using 2-by-4 lumber, frame around the pipes and attach the framing into place. Finish by drywalling over the framing and then painting the area, creating a wall that completely hides the pipes.

Panel over the pipes. For a more affordable option, use paneling to cover the pipes. Create framing to fit over plumbing pipes using 2-by-4 lumber. Attach the wood paneling to the frame, creating the look of a wall without taking on the task of drywalling.

Incorporate the pipe into built-in furniture. If your pipes are an odd shape or in an odd location, add build-in furnishings to act as pipe covers. For example, create a low bench and put it into place in front of the wall from which the pipes protrude, covering them up effortlessly and with style.
