Locate the stud behind the wall. There are two common methods for locating a stud that can be used without destroying the wall or having access to the building plans. Tap the wall with your knuckle until you find a section that does not sound hollow. This technique can be a little unreliable if you are not experienced in locating wall studs. A stud detector is a more reliable option. A stud detector is a handheld device that beeps when it is placed over a stud, allowing them to be located easily.
Place the mount on the stud at the height you want to hang it. The optimal height is going to vary based on the size of the bag and your height. If you want to estimate the height, hold the bag against the wall by the strap on which you are going to hang it. The mount should go where your hand is located when you are holding it at proper height.
Mark the screw holes on the mount onto the wall with a pencil. Set the mount aside for now.
Drill holes at each pencil mark. The drill bit should be the same size as the screws that came with the wall mount. If in doubt about the bit size, always use the smaller choice. You can always go back and drill larger holes, but drilling the holes too large is a more difficult issue to deal with.
Line the wall mount up with the holes in the wall.
Screw all of the screws in to hold the mount in place. Make sure all the screws are tightly fastened before using the wall mount.
