How to Install a Wood Floor Around Fireplace

Materials:

* Wood flooring (laminate, engineered, or solid hardwood)

* Underlayment (if required)

* Adhesives

* Primer (if required)

* Moldings (baseboard, shoe mold, etc.)

* Nails or screws

* Hammer or nail gun

* Saw

* Measuring tape

* Level

* Safety goggles

* Dust mask

Instructions:

1. Prepare the subfloor. The subfloor must be level, dry, and smooth. If necessary, level the subfloor using a self-leveling compound. If the subfloor is not dry, you will need to install a moisture barrier.

2. Install the underlayment. Some laminates and engineered wood flooring require an underlayment to provide moisture protection and sound dampening. If required, install the underlayment according to the manufacturer's instructions.

3. Install the wood flooring. Begin installing the wood flooring in the corner of the room that is farthest from the fireplace. Work your way out from the corner, laying the planks in a staggered pattern. Use a spacer to ensure that there is a consistent gap between the planks.

4. Cut around obstacles. When you reach an obstacle, such as a fireplace or hearth, you will need to cut the planks to fit. Use a saw to make the cuts.

5. Adhere the wood flooring. Apply adhesive to the back of each plank before installing it. Press the plank firmly into place, making sure that it is level with the other planks.

6. Install the moldings. Once the wood flooring is installed, you can install the moldings. Baseboard should be installed around the perimeter of the room, and shoe mold should be installed around the fireplace hearth.

7. Caulk the seams. Caulk the seams between the wood planks and the moldings to seal out moisture and dust.

8. Clean the floor. Sweep and mop the floor to remove any dust or debris.

9. Enjoy your new wood floor! Your new wood floor will beautify your home and add value to your property.
