Ventless Gas Stove vs. Pellet Stove

Ventless gas stoves and wood pellet stoves are two of the newer ways to heat a home. Each style offers advantages and disadvantages, and buyers should carefully consider the differences before making a purchase.
  1. Cost

    • Ventless gas stoves are much less expensive than pellet stoves. Generally, the natural gas used in the ventless stove is also less expensive than the wood pellets burned in the pellet stove.

    Installation

    • Ventless gas stoves are easier and more inexpensive to install than wood pellet stoves, primarily because a pellet stove requires a chimney to exhaust its emissions. However, ventless gas stoves can only be used in areas that are not tightly sealed. They are not recommended for small rooms because of the small amount of carbon monoxide these stoves release into the room. Carbon monoxide detectors should be used in homes with ventless gas stoves.

    Ease of Use

    • Ventless gas stoves are very easy to operate. Most models feature a single knob that adjusts the stove's heat. Pellet stoves require the addition of pellets to keep the stove burning. They also require ash removal and occasional chimney cleaning.
