Instructions:
Look for any cracks, damage, or other signs of deterioration. If the vents are in good condition, you may be able to simply repair them instead of replacing them.
Start by removing the nails or screws that hold the vents in place. Then, carefully pry the vents loose with a pry bar. Be careful not to damage the surrounding siding or roofing.
Use a tape measure to measure the width and height of the old gable vents. Then, mark the location of the new vents on the gable end of the roof. Use a chalk line to snap a line for the top and bottom of the vents.
Place the new gable vents in the marked locations. Make sure that the vents are properly aligned and level. Secure the vents with roofing nails or screws.
Use a caulk gun to apply a bead of caulk around the edges of the gable vents. This will help to keep water from leaking into the attic.
If you damaged the siding or roofing while removing the old gable vents, now is the time to repair it. Make sure that the repairs are made properly to prevent water damage.
#### Tips:
- If you are not comfortable working on a ladder, you can hire a professional to replace your gable vents.
- When choosing new gable vents, make sure to select a size that is appropriate for your attic. The vents should be large enough to allow for proper airflow.
- If you live in a high-wind area, you may want to install storm-resistant gable vents. These vents are designed to withstand high winds and help to prevent damage to your home.
