How to Dye Home Carpet

Remodeling your home can be a time consuming and expensive project; however, there are some simple ways to change the look of your room without emptying your wallet. Painting walls, adding new drapery and dyeing your carpet are all inexpensive ways to redecorate a room. Dyeing your carpet is a weekend project that allows you to customize the color to fit your specific needs without replacing your old carpet or purchasing a new one.

  • Vacuum
  • Carpet shampooer
  • Plastic
  • Rubber gloves
  • Carpet dye

Instructions

      Remove all items, including furniture, from the room. Nothing should touch the carpet.

      Vacuum the carpet to remove dirt and debris. Shampoo the carpet with a carpet shampooer at least 24 hours before the dyeing process. Allow the carpet to dry completely before continuing.

      Protect baseboards from splatter during the dying process by covering them with plastic.

      Mix the carpet dye according to its specific directions.

      Add the dye to a pressure sprayer.

      Spray the dye over the carpet in long strokes. Keep the strokes from overlapping if possible.

      Allow the carpet to dry for 24 to 48 hours before replacing furniture or walking on it.
