How to Build a Steel Plate Rack

Organize your dinner plates with a steel plate rack. Position your plates vertically between pairs of steel rods that are secured in a rectangular steel plate themselves. Use your plate rack for drying, such as plates and bowls after large meals when the normal drying rack is full. Steel plate racks are practically indestructible with normal use.

Instructions

    • 1

Scribe two lines across the steel plate that are 5 1/2 inches apart and 1/4 inch away from each 10-inch edge.

    • 2

Scribe nine lines that are at right angles to the first pair and space them 1 inch apart so the outside lines are 1/2 inch away from the 6-inch edges of the plate.

    • 3

Drill a 1/8-inch diameter hole that's 1/4 inch deep where the lines intersect.

    • 4

Place a small dab of epoxy in each hole so only one-quarter of the hole is filled. Insert a rod into each hole and let the epoxy dry according to the instructions on the package.
