How to Install a Resin Bathroom Top

A resin countertop provides a scratch-resistant surface for your bathroom vanity. And its non-porous surface doesn’t harbor bacteria. The many colors available match any decor. You can select a resin vanity top with the sink and countertop manufactured as a single unit, or you can set a sink into the pre-cut opening on the resin bathroom top. Installing a resin bathroom top requires very few special tools for its completion.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and width of the countertop. Add 1 1/2 inches to the front measurement for an overhang. Add up to 1-inch extra on each end, if desired. Order the resin countertop.

    • 2

Set a carpenter’s level along the top of the vanity base cabinet to ensure the cabinet top is level from side to side and front to back. If necessary, glue wood shims to the top of the base cabinet with wood glue to provide a level base for the countertop.

    • 3

Place the countertop on top of the base cabinet to ensure it fits properly. Lightly mark the underside of the resin countertop with a pencil where the cabinet comes in contact with the countertop.

    • 4

Turn the countertop over. Rub medium-grit sandpaper along the line you drew to provide a rougher surface for the adhesive to bond to.

    • 5

Mix equal parts epoxy resin and epoxy hardener with craft sticks on a piece of scrap cardboard until the glue is a uniform color. Use a craft stick to spread the glue along the tops of the base cabinets. With the assistance of a helper, set the countertop in place on the base cabinets. Press the countertop firmly into the adhesive. Allow the adhesive at least 24 hours drying time.

    • 6

Mix more resin and hardener together if the vanity has a separate sink to install. Place the adhesive around the underside of the sink and set the sink into the pre-cut opening on the countertop. Allow 24 hours for the glue to dry. Wipe off any adhesive that oozes out with a clean, damp rag. Continue with the installation of the sink’s fixtures and plumbing. If the resin countertop and sink are all one piece, you do not need to perform this step.

    • 7

Remove any protective papers that remain on the vanity countertop. Wash the surface of the countertop with warm, soapy water. Wipe the surface dry with a soft, clean rag.

    • 8

Run a bead of silicone caulking between the wall and the back edge of the countertop to prevent water from running behind the countertop. Wet your finger with water and run it along the bead of caulking to smooth the caulk into place.
