Hanging Towel Racks in the Bathroom

A bathroom towel rack needs to be securely attached to the bathroom wall, otherwise it will fall off over time as you regularly put heavy, wet towels on the rack. If possible, you should use the wall studs to mount the rack, since they provide the greatest stability. If you must mount the rack into the hollow wall, use good quality toggle wall anchors instead of any hollow wall anchors that may come with the towel rack.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the distance between the ends of the towel rack, or where the screws or mounting brackets attach to the backside of the rack. Choose a spot on the wall where you wish to install the towel rack. Use a carpenter’s square to draw a level line.

    • 2

Mark where you will drive the screws to hold the mounting brackets or rack in the wall. Drive a finishing nail into the wall where you marked to see if there is a stud present or not. Pull the nail out of the wall with the hammer.

    • 3

Drive wood screws into the wall, if you find studs are present. If no stud is present, make guide holes in the wall with a drill, and the screw the toggle anchors into the wall through the guide holes. Drive screws into the toggle anchors.

    • 4

Insert the towel rack onto the mounting brackets or the wood screws in the wall, pressing on the rack until it sits firmly on the mounts.
