How to Change the Fill Valve on a Gerber Toilet

Replacing a fill valve in a Gerber toilet is a relatively easy task that takes around 15-30 minutes. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started.

Tools and Materials Needed:

- Adjustable wrench

- Pliers

- Screwdriver

- New Gerber fill valve (model-specific)

- Plumber's tape

- Rags or towels

Step 1: Turn Off the Water Supply

- Locate the water supply valve, which is usually located behind or near the toilet.

- Turn the valve clockwise until it's fully closed. This will stop the water from flowing into the tank.

Step 2: Flush the Toilet

- Flush the toilet to drain most of the water from the tank.

- Hold down the flush valve to allow any remaining water to drain.

Step 3: Disconnect the Water Supply Line

- Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nut that connects the water supply line to the fill valve.

- Hold the fill valve in place with one hand while using the wrench with the other.

- Be careful not to drop the fill valve or any parts.

Step 4: Remove the Old Fill Valve

- Remove the old fill valve by unscrewing the two nuts that hold it in place.

- Remove the old fill valve from the toilet tank.

- Clean the area around the fill valve opening to remove any debris or old sealant.

Step 5: Install the New Fill Valve

- Apply a small amount of plumber's tape around the threads of the new fill valve.

- Screw the new fill valve into the toilet tank opening.

- Tighten the nuts securely, but don't over-tighten them.

Step 6: Reconnect the Water Supply Line

- Reconnect the water supply line to the new fill valve by screwing on the nut.

- Tighten the nut securely using the adjustable wrench.

Step 7: Adjust the Water Level

- Open the water supply valve slowly to refill the toilet tank.

- Adjust the fill valve, so that the water level in the tank is approximately 1 inch below the overflow tube.

- There may be an adjustment screw on the fill valve that you can turn to adjust the water level.

Step 8: Test the Fill Valve

- Flush the toilet to test the new fill valve.

- Make sure that the fill valve fills the tank to the correct level and stops automatically.

- Check for any leaks around the fill valve and water supply connection.

Congratulations! You have successfully replaced the fill valve in your Gerber toilet.
