How to Screw a Bolt on a Brick Wall

When you stand in front of a brick wall, you see thick brick and solid concrete. It may look impossible to screw a bolt into the brick wall to add additional decorations to the interior or exterior of your home. You can accomplish drilling into brick walls to insert a bolt if you have the proper tools and supplies. With the proper tools, you will not damage the brick or the concrete by drilling and you will be able to screw a bolt into the brick to hang your pictures, rope lighting, light fixtures or flagpole.

  • Protective eye wear
  • Carbide drill bit
  • Hammer drill

      Mark the area with a marker on your brick wall to pinpoint the location that you desire to drill.

      Insert your carbide drill bit into your hammer drill. The bit should be appropriate in size to fit the anchor properly.

      Drill into the wall with your hammer drill, applying moderate pressure against the drill while holding it steady for a smooth hole. Be sure to wear protective eyewear to reduce the possibility of injury.

      Switch your hammer drill into reverse to remove the drill bit from the brick wall.

      Insert the tip of your concrete sleeve anchor into the hole created by your hammer drill.

      Tap the anchor into place using a hammer.

      Insert the bolt into the anchor and use the drill to drill the bolt into the anchor.
