How to Use a Mohr Pipet

A Mohr pipette is a type of volumetric pipette used to measure and dispense liquid. A Mohr pipette differs from other volumetric pipettes, in that it generally has far more graduation measuring lines as part of the design. The Mohr style of the pipette is named after German pharmacist Karl Friedrich Mohr, who developed the device to transfer specific amounts of liquid in an accurate manner.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the pipette under the surface of the liquid.

    • 2

Squeeze the bulb while pressing the value against the top of the pipette.

    • 3

Decrease the pressure on the bulb which allows the liquid to fill to the desired volume.

    • 4

Remove the bulb and cover the pipette with a top or finger.

    • 5

Determine the volume of liquid in a pipette by reading the bottom of the meniscus. Determine that you have the correct liquid volume. Remove the top and pour out any excess liquid.
